HON. CHIMAOBI ATU, A PRAYER ANSWERED TO NDI ENUGU NORTH AND SOUTH FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY.By Nweke Solomon Chukwuebuka.(Prime minister)
The 2023 National Assembly elections in Enugu state clearly unraveled lots of hidden facts to the indigenes of Enugu State who were misled by politicians to hold on to certain conclusions emanating from a wrong premise.
Before now, Enugu North and South Constituency was represented by politicians who by experience were qualified for any position in the National Assembly, even the post of a speaker, yet, for several years their impact was never felt. It was as though the Constituency never had a Rep, because there were no town halls, no Constituency projects, no bills passed, no interfacing with the Constituency to know the actual issue facing them amongst others. They only show up during campaigns to make plethora of promises. To make matters worse, these candidates were usually anointed and selected from the government house, thereby leaving little chance for the people to choose their own representative.
The people of Enugu North and South Constituency was at the brink of losing every hope of electing their own, but, for Obidient Movement which gained momentum across the country. The members of this movement were millions of people who had given up on the political system and were now convinced that a radical change can be effected through a corporative engagement of the masses. Little by little, the Obidients began to convert those that had hitherto refused to obtain voters card alleging that votes don't count in Nigeria, as well as those that lost interest because election results are “predetermined by some self-acclaimed gods” who only favour those that serve their interest.
The campaign was a huge success, as a large number of voters not only turn out for voting, but also, waited religiously for the results to be announced, as God may have it the results eventually were announced and the old narratives were changed. The result in the entire Enugu State including Enugu North and South Federal Constituency is that those considered as political feather weights for their inability to align with the governor’s political camp and party, eventually emerged victorious. Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu was one of those contestants that rode to victory through the obedient movement.
Immediately Hon. Atu was declared winner by INEC, the opposition came up with the propaganda that Atu was a bus driver. However Atu being a man of noble character would not let that cheap propaganda to deter his ambition and the good works he is about to do for his people. Just like Abraham Lincoln, he used the stones that was thrown at him to build an empire. He maintains that his revilers were never wrong to have called him a bus driver, he smartly posited that it can be figuratively understood that he will drive his lovely constituency to the promise land. Ever since then, Hon. Chimaobi Atu has made an indelible mark in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
Though a first timer, he proved his readiness to serve, by being the first law maker to move a motion on the floor of the National Assembly on their first day in the House. This said motion was pursuant to the gully erosion at Ugwuonyeama in Enugu-Onitsha express way. Within the past four months, he also moved many other motions which include the killings in Amechi Awkunanaw in Enugu South LGA, Enugu State.
He has also sponsored 13 bills, 5 of which are critical amendments bill while the rest are establishment bill. These are: 1. A bill to establish Federal Medical Centre, Enugu
2. A bill to establish federal school of nursing and midwifery Enugu South.
3. A bill to establish federal school of skill acquisition and empowerment, Enugu North,
4. A bill to establish federal football academy, Enugu.
5. A bill to establish Nigeria military academy, Enugu.
6. A bill to establish erosion prevention and control commission, Enugu.
7. A bill to establish Nigerian coal development commission, Enugu North.
8. A bill to establish Health equipment guarantee funds
In the areas of infrastructure he has proven his worth too. He has installed solar street lights in places like Ugwuaji, Maryland Estate, Ndiagu Amechi and coal camp, Enugu. He has built roads in Monaque, Ndiagu Amechi etc; sponsored Under-15 football championship in demonstration of his firm resolve to dissuade young lads from social vices through social engagement.
Many who are conversant with the art of law making will agree with me that Atu is prepared for this job. With just his four months in office, he has achieved all these, one wonders what his 4years in office would look like?
Hon Chimaobi Sam Atu has revealed that Enugu North and South were ill- represented all these while. That is, the success he has recorded has proven that our past representatives were either not qualified or reluctant in attending to the dire needs of the constituency. It can now be said that what the people of Enugu North and South has been looking for, they have found in ATU CHIMAOBI (I call him, IHEANACHO).
May the good God continue to enrich him with more wisdom to drive this city bus safely to the promise land.
Long live Hon Chimaobi Atu,
Long live Enugu North and South
Long live labour party.
