To commemorate the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child, the Enugu State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has initiated a groundbreaking three-day skill acquisition training program targeting young women. This endeavor, led by Comr. Adaeze Anita Isamade, Deputy Chairman of NYCN Enugu Chapter, aims to empower girls with valuable skills, fostering self-sufficiency and contributing to the nation's economic development.

This unprecedented event garnered widespread acclaim for its impact-oriented approach, offering practical skills to numerous young girls for self-empowerment and family betterment. The inaugural ceremony, presided over by State Council Chairman Comr. Batholomew Ebuka Okoh, represented by Chief of Staff Comr. Ogbu Abuchi (Ebubechukwuzo), marked the commencement of this transformative initiative.

Comr. Adaeze Anita, the driving force behind this initiative, stressed the significance of girls acquiring practical skills, highlighting their potential as thriving entrepreneurs and financially independent women. Learning these skills during their formative years not only bolsters their self-esteem but also equips them for the responsibilities of womanhood.

The three-day program commenced on October 7th, featuring sports activities and theoretical sessions covering bakery, Zobo drink production, tigernut drink preparation, and pineapple juice extraction. Day two will include hands-on classes where participants will refine their skills, while the main event on October 11th, the International Day of the Girl Child celebration, will culminate this empowering program.

The benefits of these skills ripple beyond individual girls, positively influencing their families and society at large. Skills empowerment translates into heightened economic development, improved educational prospects for the next generation, and healthier households. Furthermore, it enables girls to engage in decision-making processes, contributing to a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

Comr. Adaeze Anita conveyed her dedication to establishing this as an annual tradition, with hopes that it will evolve into a lasting policy for future administrations. The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) plays a pivotal role in advancing youth development and fostering peace, unity, and tolerance within the country.

Founded in 1964 and officially recognized in 1990, the NYCN serves as the voice of Nigerian youth, boasting branches at the national, zonal, and state levels. Affiliated with global youth organizations, the NYCN has been instrumental in empowering young people through scholarships and support programs, thereby contributing to the nation's progress.

As the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child approaches, the Enugu Chapter of NYCN is charting a course toward a brighter, more empowered future for young girls in Nigeria, setting a precedent for others to emulate.
