Enugu Nurses at ESUT Park Lane Cry Out on Unpaid Salaries Since March 2023, Calls for State Government's Intervention

The recently recruited nurses at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUT) Park Lane in Enugu have raised their voices in a desperate plea to the Enugu State Government. Their outcry stems from the non-payment of their salaries since they commenced work in March 2023.

The dire need for nurses in ESUT Park Lane had prompted the hospital's management to seek the approval of the Enugu State Government for the recruitment of 150 nurses. This recruitment followed a transparent process, including open advertisements, applications, interviews, and the selection of candidates from Enugu State's three senatorial zones.

Eager to contribute to the healthcare system, these nurses accepted their appointment letters legally and commenced their duties in March 2023. Many of them resigned from other jobs and even relocated to Enugu to fulfill this commitment.

In May 2023, a Bio data capturing exercise took place, encompassing all newly employed health workers, including doctors. To the nurses' astonishment and disappointment, the government promptly paid the doctors while neglecting their rightful salaries, leaving them in financial hardship ever since.

This blatant injustice has not gone unnoticed, as the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) at ESUT Park Lane Enugu vehemently condemns this unfair treatment. Comr. Ezema Innocent Ejike, Chairman of NANNM Parklane Enugu, and Comr. Joy Laeticia Chukwu, Secretary of NANNM Parklane Enugu, are leading the charge in advocating for the rights and fair treatment of these dedicated nurses.

The nurses at ESUT Park Lane Enugu are now pleading with the Enugu State Government to address this issue urgently and ensure that they receive their long-overdue salaries, which they rightfully deserve for their hard work and commitment to the healthcare sector. The spotlight is now on the government to rectify this injustice and stand by its promise to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Enugu State.
